Not an ask but a heads up about Sleeping Dogs. It's a hell of a lot of fun to play, but almost painfully short.

Yeah, I just actually beat it. It wasn’t very short for me, though, because I’m kind of a sandbox gaming junkie that has to go and do every mission and find every collectible. However, there was such a stupid amount of dumb stuff to find and collect that for once in my life, I just gave up searching and plowed through the story.

The story was…eh…honestly, I’ve already forgotten what the ending was. If I was just playing the campaign, I can definitely see why it would be considered short. The plot rushes itself at a breakneck speed. Characters are introduced, immediately removed from the plot, and only ever show up again to get killed and try to get SOME connection out of you.

Man, I really wanted to fall in love with this game. I still really like the combat system in the game and driving feels pretty nice, but the shooting segments just suck. Even Wei, who I loved at first, now feels really inconsistent as a character and kind of shitty.

Maybe I play True Crime: Streets of LA again.

We sure as hell will! Leslie and I are only going to be co-running a village though, so unfortunately you’ll only ever be able to see one of us at a time. But we’re definitely going to be taking lots of screenshots and showing you guys what we made!

Really proud of how Leslie did this one. Will probably turn this one into a print. Hell, might have to make a few more prints, because Leslie and I have a CONVENTION to go to!
So, awhile back we planned three conventions. Screwattack, Connecticon, and Mechacon. Unfortunately, one of my teeth exploded, so we had to rush to the dentist and drop a ludicrous amount of money and tooth repair. That sucked a lot and ate up most of our con money, so Screwattack and Mechacon are now out of the picture. HOWEVER, CONNECTICON IS 100% CONFIRMED. Leslie and I, as well as pretty much the ENTIRE HIVEWORKS CREW, will be attending Connecticon! We’ll be doing commissions, selling prints, hosting panels, and generally be hanging around to talk and play Animal Crossing/Monster Hunter with! We’re going to be hanging out with tons of fans and tons of Hiveworks artists and it’s going to be the coolest thing ever and oh my god we are SO HYPED. I HAVE NEVER BEEN FURTHER THAN TENNESSEE THIS IS THE COOLEST AAAHHHHHHH

Tropes vs Women in Video Games: Keynotes

  • Ignoring the fifty thousand men you had to brutally murder in various horrific ways, having to shoot a woman or watch them be killed in a much less gruesome manner is pretty sexist and dudes should really feel bad
  • Men are robots programmed to protect women. Should they fail at saving a loved one, they do not feel bad simply because they had an emotional connection with that person, but because they failed at their job. 
  • Fighting a 200 foot city-destroying statue with feminine features is akin to domestic abuse.
  • There are no evil women. Fighting a mutant demon succubus hellbent on destroying you AND the world in a video game is a pretty convincing parallel to the real-life physical and mental abuse many real women face.
  • On a list of sexism in video games, Ico deserves to be mentioned alongside Duke Nukem Forever.
  • Again, men cannot have feelings towards women as they are only considered to be their property. Should their wife/mother/sister/long-time childhood female friend be put into a situation requiring their immediate rescue, having the man fight to save her is no different than a man trying to retrieve his baseball from Mr. Bighead’s front lawn.
  • It’s super easy to make all these brash comparisons when any and all context is removed. Who cares if you punched a lady that was trying to murder you and drag your soul down to hell for an eternity of torture? You still punched a lady. And that’s sexist.
  • There are a number of legitimate concerns regarding the treatment of both female characters and actual women in this industry, but it’s a lot easier to talk about how games from 2003 and older got it wrong. 

At the very least, she didn’t try to bring up Metal Gear Solid 3 in regards to women being killed in video games and we might finally get some of her positive examples of female portrayals, but god damn. Don’t fucking patronize men by telling him “hey, bad portrayals of women hurts you too, guys!” and follow it up by telling them they can’t have a human connection with a woman other than “I didn’t do my job of protecting my property”.

With the direction the xbox one is going there is something I hope happens. Nintendo is trying to buy back Rare from Microsoft, I hope they do so my all time favorite fighting game isn't on the xbox one, Killer Instinct! I was wondering if you felt the same? *Me and my double questions* Also, being a PC gamer, have you seen the rumor of Half-Life 3 coming out this fall because of a hidden trailor in Portal 2 and that rumor of Appiture Sience buying Black Mesa and being renamed "Blappiture Mesa"?

Yeah, I’m hearing a lot of rumors of Rare revitalizing one of their classic franchises and them renewing the trademark on Killer Instinct or something, but I dunno, it feels like it’s way too late now. It’s certainly not anything that I’m going to buy an Xbox One for. Anyone who was at Rare when they made those classics are long gone now.

And man, I’ve heard too many rumors regarding Half-Life 3 to believe any of them. It’ll probably be weeks after it comes out before I realize the world wasn’t kidding.
