Not sure if this question is in response to everyone’s reaction or my reaction to everyone’s reaction. And hell, I don’t know. I love Vanillaware’s art and I love how ridiculous the Sorceress looks. She fits perfectly in this universe of beefy mancakes and dancing rats. And it’s not like she’s the default go-to female design for the game, she’s one of three other girls, one of which is as roided up and muscular as the male dwarf, and the other is a conservatively dressed archer.
I got another ask mentioning how the Gearbox artist draws proportioned people who look like actual human beings, which to me, just sounds boring in comparison to the clearly stylized characters of Vanillaware games. I don’t understand why people would want “normal” characters in a game like this. It’s a medieval fantasy beat ‘em up where one to four characters beat up an entire army and probably eat chunks of meat straight from the ground after launching fireballs from their fingers. This isn’t a game where people should look like accurate medieval warriors. This isn’t Lord of the Rings. It IS a juvenile fantasy on all ends, and it’s awesome for being that.
Chiiiiiiill Brad. Remember this is one person (who is an environment artist I might add) talking on her on accord. Regardless of what you think of Gearbox as a whole it's kinda shitty to pin this on the whole company for what she says on her own time.
I just don’t understand why she would talk shit about another company’s “objectifying” artistic stylings when the company she works for does the exact same shit with roughly two of their three biggest games. If the Sorceress is sexist, then what the hell does that make Mad Moxxi and any female character in Duke Nukem Forever?

I'm starting to lose faith in the gaming industry as a whole. Only the same gray and bloom shooters are getting released every other month to appeal to "the audience" and now western developers and "journalists" are hating, that's what it is, on japanese games and developers because of sexism. Especially shitaku decided to become the leading source in all stuff sexism/feminism. Argh, fuck this industry (kotaku isn't even feminist, it's shit). Your opinion?
No, I definitely agree, Kotaku’s probably the worst thing gaming culture has ever produced and my good buddy Scottsummed it up best.
It’s just really fucking sad to see a company that puts so much love into their games get dragged down to shit because of an exaggerated, parodic fantasy character design in a game about exaggerated, parodic fantasy characters.
“[This is] actually something that made its way into a basically finished video game?” Gearbox artist Shaylyn Hamm wrote on the message board for website The Escapist. Hamm was referencing Dragon’s Crown’s Sorceress character that has large breasts, long legs, a tiny head, and a revealing outfit.
“Some juvenile delinquent kid in my fifth grade class used to draw girls that looked like that — only without the creepy, blank featureless samefaces and wizards hats,” Hamm continued. “I think he was actually better at it [than Kamitani]. I also think he’s in jail now.”
No...I WAS THERE. Nooooooooo and I missed you guys.. I was at the Monster Hunter panel and everything. Excuse me while I go watch the episode of Outlaw Star when James has to kill his girlfriend. Are you guys going to come back to Sabo this year?!
Nah, we were lucky enough to get invited as guests there last time, along with the previously mentioned Hiveworks people we grouped up with. So unless we suddenly have a fat sack of cash drop on us and we feel like driving all the way through Texas and back again, an Arizona trip doesn’t seem too likely. Sorry!

She's just huggable, dude. Don't worry - you are too.
Please come to Phoenix Comicon. Pleeease. Or some sort of convention in Arizona.
We were just in Arizona like, last year! For Sabotencon! We were sitting right beside Erin from Metacarpolis, Chris from Misfile, and this jerk! It was super awesome and Leslie even got a badge made out of her art! Did we ever upload those? I don’t remember.
I wish you guys could come to JAFAX here in Michigan. I want to hug Leslie and stroke your beard for a bit while you wax poetic about Monster Hunter.
We’re running a tight ship here, so we’ll only grant you one of those three things. Your choice has also been randomly selected, and oh hey what do you know, it’s the one where we talk about Monster Hunter forever.
Am I allowed to ask what the panel is about or is it classified?
We’re going to host a panel discussing various Monster Hunter topics of interest, including the strategic differences between a Lance and a Gunlance, what to do when you encounter a Deviljho in the wild, and Bows: Best weapon in the game, or a dumb piece of shit for fairies?
Nah, we’ll probably just talk about webcomics or something stupid
Could you guys somehow how be convinced to visit a con in Wisconsin or somewhere near it?
Seriously, I hope at some point in our lucrative webcomic career, we can go on a world convention tour and just hit up all the major conventions in every state.
But for right now, we’re basically restricted to conventions that are either in the state, the next state over, or conventions that are paying for us to be there. You can always try to contact your convention to see if they want some WEBCOMIC ROCKSTARS as guests, but I seriously doubt it. Webcomic people aren’t as high priority as Fullmetal Alchemist voice actors.
